Description

RigidGems Museum is a collection game where you mine rough stones, cut them, collect them, and display them to build your own digital gem museum. It features 500+ cuts licensed from real gem cut designers and rights holders, letting you collect and admire a wide variety of gems.

About This Game

Discover rough gemstones, cut them, explore how they interact with light, collect them, and put them on display.

RigidGems Museum is a gemstone collection game where you can mine minerals from locations around the world, cut rough stones into beautiful gems, and create your own digital gemstone museum.

With a major update, the number of mineable mineral types has increased dramatically from 59 to 156.

The game now features 158 mineral types, with a total of 219 catalog entries including color variations.

It also includes more than 500 gemstone cut designs, including numerous designs officially licensed from real-world gem cutters and rights holders.

Even when using the same mineral, different cuts can dramatically change how a gemstone interacts with light, affecting its color, transparency, brilliance, and overall appearance.

At the heart of RigidGems Museum is another important feature: real-time gemstone rendering technology that has been in development since 2009.

Real-Time Gemstone Rendering — In Development Since 2009

Development of the gemstone rendering technology used in RigidGems Museum began in 2009.

At that time, modern RT cores and DirectX Raytracing did not exist.

Rendering the repeated reflections and refractions of light inside transparent objects at interactive frame rates required years of research, experimentation, and optimization.

Rather than simply relying on increasingly powerful hardware, FerioWorks has focused on developing rendering techniques that make complex optical effects possible with limited computational resources.

The goal has always been to bring complex interactions of light to life in real time, even within practical hardware limitations.

RigidGems Museum brings this technology into an interactive game, allowing players to experience it directly through a wide variety of minerals and gemstone cuts.

The rendering engine calculates internal reflections, refraction, dispersion, and absorption in real time, producing different optical appearances depending on the mineral, color, transparency, geometry, and cut.

The technology has also expanded beyond traditional transparent faceted gemstones to support minerals with specialized optical effects, including opals, labradorite, and star sapphires.

Mine Rough Stones Around the World and Turn Them into Gems

Explore mining locations around the world and discover a wide variety of minerals.

Rough stones obtained through mining are added to your collection and can be cut into gemstones using your preferred designs.

The major update expands the number of mineable mineral types to 156, introducing numerous opaque minerals alongside the transparent gemstones already available.

Minerals differ in transparency, color, crystal structure, and geographical origin.

Even specimens of the same mineral may have different appearances depending on their color variations and the cuts applied to them.

You can admire minerals in their rough form or transform them into polished gemstones.

Which mineral will you choose, and which cut will bring out its beauty?

Experimenting with these combinations and observing how they interact with light is one of the central experiences of RigidGems Museum.

Over 500 Gemstone Cut Designs

RigidGems Museum includes more than 500 gemstone cut designs.

From familiar shapes such as round, oval, and cushion cuts to complex designer cuts with intricate facet arrangements, the game offers an extensive selection of designs.

Many of these designs have been officially licensed from real-world gem cutters and rights holders.

There are two cutting methods available:

Timing Cut

An accessible cutting method where you stop a moving marker three times. Your timing determines how closely the finished gemstone matches the target carat weight.

Precision Cut

A more detailed cutting method where you manually adjust the position, rotation, and size of the cut wireframe inside the rough stone before cutting.

Rather than simply producing finished gemstones, you can experiment with different cuts, compare their optical appearances, discover your favorite combinations, and preserve the results as part of your collection.

Cabochon Cuts and New Gemstone Effects

The major update introduces official support for cabochon cuts, expanding the cutting system beyond traditional faceted gemstones.

Unlike faceted cuts, which use multiple flat surfaces to reflect and refract light, cabochons feature smooth, rounded surfaces that can reveal distinctive optical phenomena within certain gemstones.

Cabochon cuts are particularly suitable for exploring the visual characteristics of opals, star sapphires, star rubies, and moonstones.

The same mineral can appear remarkably different depending on whether it is displayed as a rough stone, a faceted gem, or a cabochon.

Minerals That Transform with Light

Not all minerals interact with light in the same way.

RigidGems Museum uses specialized real-time rendering techniques to represent the distinctive appearances and optical phenomena associated with different minerals.

Opals — Play-of-Color

Discover a variety of opals, including black opal, white opal, crystal opal, and fire opal.

In addition to differences in body color and transparency, the rendering system reproduces the colorful optical phenomenon known as play-of-color.

From transparent opals to milky white specimens and black opals displaying vivid flashes of color against dark backgrounds, a wide range of appearances can be explored.

Labradorite and Spectrolite — Labradorescence

Labradorite and spectrolite display labradorescence, an optical phenomenon that produces striking colors depending on the viewing angle and lighting conditions.

Blue, green, yellow, orange, and other colors can emerge across the mineral's surface and within its structure.

These minerals offer a completely different visual experience from conventional transparent gemstones.

Star Sapphire and Star Ruby — Asterism

Star sapphires and star rubies exhibit asterism, an optical phenomenon that produces a star-shaped pattern of light.

The star changes its position and appearance depending on the relationship between the gemstone, camera, and light source.

Combined with cabochon cuts, this effect creates a distinctive appearance that can be explored interactively.

Moonstone and Rainbow Moonstone

Moonstone exhibits adularescence, a soft, floating glow that appears to move within the gemstone as the viewing angle changes.

Rainbow moonstone displays distinctive blue or multicolored flashes of light.

Explore the different optical characteristics of these gemstones as they interact with their surroundings.

Ammolite — Brilliant Colors from Thin-Film Interference

Ammolite displays vivid colors produced by thin-film interference.

Its appearance changes with viewing angle and lighting conditions, revealing brilliant colors that differ from those of conventional transparent gemstones.

These specialized optical effects were developed by studying the characteristics and optical properties of real minerals and adapting them for real-time rendering.

Change the mineral.

Change the cut.

Change the viewing angle.

Change the light.

Even the same gemstone can reveal a completely different appearance.

Fantasy Inclusions

Some rough stones contain unusual inclusions waiting to be discovered.

These special inclusions feature imaginative designs inspired by flowers, planets, galaxies, and other objects.

They are not intended to reproduce real-world gemological inclusions or professional gemstone identification.

Instead, they are fantasy elements designed to make discovering and collecting gemstones more enjoyable.

Even two stones of the same mineral and cut can have entirely different appearances depending on what lies inside them.

Finding a rare inclusion and deciding how to cut the stone around it adds another dimension to the collection experience.

Create Your Own Cuts with GemCutDesigner

You are not limited to the cut designs included in the game.

With GemCutDesigner, you can create your own original gemstone cuts.

Start by selecting basic shapes and structural arrangements, then generate designs through simple operations or fine-tune more detailed parameters.

The system processes the geometry automatically, making it possible to create complex gemstone cuts without requiring extensive knowledge of professional gem cutting.

Your custom designs can be saved and used directly on gemstones within the game.

GemCutDesigner does not use generative AI trained on existing gemstone cut designs.

It constructs gemstone cuts through original geometric generation and shape-processing techniques.

Proprietary Rendering Engine

RigidGems Museum runs on a proprietary real-time rendering engine developed by FerioWorks.

The game is not a DXR-only title.

The engine includes its own real-time ray tracing techniques, allowing the game to run on GPUs without dedicated RT cores.

On compatible hardware, players can also enable rendering through DirectX Raytracing (DXR).

More powerful GPUs can provide higher resolutions and frame rates, but the game's fundamental gemstone rendering capabilities are not designed to depend exclusively on a particular generation of GPU hardware.

The engine also uses different rendering techniques depending on the optical characteristics of each material.

Transparent gemstones, opaque minerals, and minerals exhibiting specialized optical phenomena are rendered using techniques suited to their respective properties.

Real-Time Ray Tracing Benchmark

In addition to the main game, RigidGems Museum includes a dedicated benchmark mode for evaluating real-time ray tracing performance.

During normal gameplay, players can also enable a performance information display showing details such as:

  • GPU

  • Resolution

  • FPS

  • trace/sec

  • rays/pixel

These statistics can be monitored in real time.

Rather than being limited to fixed benchmark scenes, you can directly observe how rendering performance changes across different minerals, gemstone cuts, camera angles, and environments.

This feature is intended for hardware enthusiasts and players interested in real-time computer graphics.

It is entirely optional and is not required for normal gameplay.

Streaming and Video Content Policy

Live streaming and video creation featuring RigidGems Museum gameplay are permitted.

Content creators are welcome to:

  • Live stream gameplay.

  • Upload recorded gameplay videos.

  • Monetize gameplay videos and live streams.

Gameplay content may be published on platforms such as YouTube, Twitch, TikTok, and other video-sharing or live-streaming services.

No prior notification or special permission from the developer is required.

Streamer Mode — Background Music for Streaming and Video Creation

RigidGems Museum includes a dedicated Streamer Mode designed for content creators who record gameplay videos or broadcast live streams.

Some tracks used in the game's normal background music may be subject to copyright claims through automated identification systems such as YouTube Content ID.

To help reduce these issues, the game provides an alternative background music mode specifically intended for streaming and video creation.

When Streamer Mode is enabled, the game's normal background music is automatically replaced with alternative tracks created by the developer using generative AI music tools.

These tracks were created by the developer specifically for the game and have not been registered with YouTube Content ID.

In previous versions of RigidGems Museum, enabling Streamer Mode muted the background music entirely.

With the updated Streamer Mode, you can now enjoy background music while recording or streaming gameplay instead of playing in silence.

This feature is intended to reduce the likelihood of Content ID claims associated with the game's normal soundtrack and minimize the need for creators to submit copyright disputes after uploading their videos.

However, automated copyright detection systems on external platforms are outside the developer's control. Therefore, the absence of copyright warnings or claims cannot be absolutely guaranteed.

We recommend enabling Streamer Mode whenever you record gameplay videos or broadcast live streams.
